List Converter 11.0

List Converter is used to convert files lists for BBS systems other
than TriBBS to the TriBBS 10.0 file list format. Because List
Converter uses a collection of templates to determine the foreign file
list format, it can convert virtually any file list. You should note
that List Converter will only work for registered TriBBS 10.0 Pro
sysops.
SETTING UP LIST CONVERTER
-------------------------
Because List Converter will only work for registered TriBBS 10.0 Pro
sysops, it must be run for a node's main directory. The best spot to
put it is in node 1's main directory. Let's say your node's main
directory resides in the directory C:\TRIBBS, you would need to copy
the files LISTCVT.EXE (the List Converter executable file) and
TEMPLATE.TXT (the List Converter template file) into the directory
with commands similar to the following:
COPY LISTCVT.EXE C:\TRIBBS
COPY TEMPLATE.TXT C:\TRIBBS
RUNNING LIST CONVERTER
----------------------
List Converter is run by simply entering LISTCVT at the DOS prompt.
You will notice that near the top of the screen there are two black
lines. The top black line is the sample file list display line. The
bottom black line is the template display line. The template display
line will contain the first template in List Converters template
file. Because most CDs come with PCBoard file lists on them, the
first template displayed is the PCBoard file list template. List
Converter is used with the the following keys:
<Alt><L> This key combination will load a sample file list and
display the file list's first line in List Converter's
file list display line.
<Down Arrow> Displays the next line in the sample file list.
<Up Arrow> Displays the previous line in the sample file list.
<Left Arrow> Moves the template line's cursor to the next character
position.
<Right Arrow> Moves the template line's cursor to the previous
character position.
<Pg Dn> Displays the next template.
<Pg Up> Displays the previous template.
<Alt><S> This key combination saves the revised templates. List
Converter will prompt you to name the "User Defined"
template. If you do not want to save the "User
Defined" template, just leave the name blank and List.
Converter won't bother to save it.
<F> Sets the starting position for the file's name in the
file list template.
<L> Sets the starting and ending positions for the file's
length in the file list template. Because the file
length can be a variable length field, pressing <L> the
first time will only mark the starting position for the
file length. Once you have marked the file length's
starting position, move the template line's cursor to
the right and press <L> again to define the file
length's ending position.
<D> Sets the starting position for the file's date in the
file list template. You should note that List
Converter can work with dates using either the MM-DD-YY
or YYMMDD formats. MM-DD-YY is the default format.
You can toggle this to the YYMMDD format, by leaving
the template line's cursor in the date's first position
and pressing <D> again.
<X> Sets the starting position for the file's description.
List Converter assumes that the description's ending
position is the end of the line.
<Alt><X> This key combination starts the conversion process.
List Converter will ask you to enter the file name for
the file list(s) to be converted. You can use DOS wild
card characters to specify multiple files in a single
directory. List Converter will then ask you to enter
the name of the directory that you want the converted
file list(s) to be placed in. Please note that List
Converter will use the original file list's name for
the converted file list; therefore, you should not
specify the same directory where the original file
list(s) are located.
NOTES ABOUT LIST CONVERTER
--------------------------
Although List Converter does an excellent job of converting file
lists, it's not perfect. Some BBS file list formats permit headers in
the file lists. If the file lists you want to convert have headers,
they will have to be removed manually with a text editor before
running List Converter. List Converter will not word wrap a
description as long as the description's first line is 45 characters
or less. List Converter will assume that a 02H byte in the
description is a line break.
USER-DEFINED TEMPLATES
----------------------
Because List Converter allows you to define your own file list
templates, it can convert virtually any file list out there. If you
do create templates of your own, please upload your TEMPLATE.TXT file
to TriSoft so that your user-defined templates can be included in
future releases of the List Converter template file. Please try to
name the templates as to the type of BBS software or CD that the
original file list came from.
